Food Lion opens two new stores in Greenville area

Food Lion is adding two new stores to the Greenville area this month, increasing its footprint in the region to 49 locations. The first will open in Lavonia, Georgia, at 12260 Augusta Road on October 14, while the second will launch in Greenville, South Carolina, at 2111 N. Pleasantburg Drive on October 21.

The Lavonia store replaces Dill’s Food City, which had operated for 91 years under the Dilworth family ownership. Food Lion purchased the site and renovated it with updated features, including a ready-to-eat meals section, fresh produce displays, and specialty offerings like organic, gluten-free, and plant-based products. The store also includes a self-service wing station, prepared fruit sections, and self-checkout lanes for customer convenience.

In Greenville, Food Lion took over a former Bi-Lo location and applied a similar modernization. Both new stores will support delivery services through Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats and carry private-label products like Nature’s Promise and Local Goodness, which are sourced from regional suppliers. The company has emphasized maintaining ties to local traditions during the transition.

Both openings will feature ribbon-cutting ceremonies beginning at 7:45 a.m., with the first 100 customers receiving mystery gift cards valued up to $200 and reusable shopping bags. Operating hours will be 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. These openings are part of a broader expansion plan, with 10 new Food Lion locations scheduled for 2026.

Food Lion also announced a $5,000 donation to local food banks through its Food Lion Feeds initiative. The company will contribute $2,500 each to the Rainbow Food Pantry in Royston, Georgia and Catholic Charities in Greenville, providing enough for 25,000 meals at each location. The program has already supported over 1.5 billion meals since 2014, with a target of 3 billion by 2032. Unsold but edible food from the stores will also go to these pantries.

These acquisitions align with Food Lion’s ongoing growth strategy in the Southeast. Based in Salisbury, North Carolina, the company operates more than 1,100 stores across 10 states, including Georgia and South Carolina. The expansion reflects the retailer’s focus on community engagement and operational modernization in its existing markets.
