Revolve launches magazine while Cato shuts 70 stores

Fashion retailer Revolve launched Revolve Magazine on Tuesday, marking the return of print publications to the e-commerce space. The annual print and digital publication features style and product curation, exclusive stories, and trend-focused editorial from the company’s buying and merchandising teams. Future issues will cover themes including music, sports, and travel, addressing cultural conversations from the brand’s perspective. The debut issue includes three different covers featuring Kendall Jenner, Teyana Taylor, and Alex Consani.

A return to print and a store purge

Revolve’s decision to launch a physical magazine arrives as the retail market shifts back toward tangible media. By pairing digital distribution with print, the company aims to create a longer conversation with customers rather than relying on short-form content.

Simultaneously, specialty apparel retailer Cato is closing additional locations. The company announced plans to shut down 70 underperforming stores in the third and fourth quarters, bringing the total closures for the year to about 120 locations. Cato estimates it will incur costs between $1 million and $1.3 million to exit these locations. However, the closures are expected to boost operating results for fiscal 2027 and beyond.

“In light of the current economic environment, especially with the negative pressure on our customers’ discretionary income, we do not expect these marginal stores to improve appreciably,” CEO John Cato said in a statement. “As a result, we are closing more stores than expected this year.”

Scents of a franchise and a voting push

Scentbird introduced The Twilight Saga: New Moon Eau de Parfum this week to coincide with the release season. The fragrance aims to translate the emotional intensity of the second film into a wearable scent, featuring notes of ginger flower, Tahitian vanilla, caramel, amber, and sandalwood. The product is exclusively available through Scentbird and ranges in price from $4.95 for a 1.5 mL sample to $90 for a 50 mL full-size bottle.

On the political front, Patagonia has focused its efforts on voter turnout. The company announced that its campaign to get out the vote reached 11.2 million people in just four days, costing approximately $11.2 million. Patagonia offered a $100 credit to individuals who recruited three others to make a voting plan. The plan included determining deadlines and voting locations, as well as deciding between early voting, in-person voting, or mail-in ballots.

The promotion is finished, but the voter plan tool remains online. This initiative builds on the company’s history of election activism, which includes closing all U.S. offices, stores, and warehouses for every federal election since 2016. The Environmental Voter Project estimates that 11.2 million environmentalists failed to vote in the 2024 presidential election, Patagonia noted in an emailed press release. The company placed its first get-out-the-vote ad in 1978.

Dimming TV sales signals caution

Consumer confidence data released this week suggests a slowdown in big-ticket electronics. The Conference Board’s report showed diminished sentiment, with only about 9% of consumers planning to purchase a television in the next six months. This figure represents a drop of nearly three points from February.

Analysts at Jefferies noted that September’s year-on-year decline was the steepest since the period following the announcement of sweeping tariffs in April 2025. The report cited stretched wallets and higher fuel costs as factors weighing on discretionary intent. “Stretched wallets and higher fuel costs are weighing on big-ticket discretionary intent, and TVs are no exception,” the analysts said. Tech-enthusiast customers may be wooed by RGB and convinced to make the upgrade, Jefferies analysts said, but even that innovation won’t be immune if weak TV purchase sentiment is widespread.
