Mia and Harper Roux’s Melbourne wedding was a celebration of their love, with the couple exchanging vows and dancing to a mix of Nick Cave and Justin Bieber. The two met on their first day of Year Seven and remained friends until they started dating during a trip to Europe.
The Couple’s Story
They maintained a long-distance relationship while Harper was on semester exchange in France, before deciding to get engaged in 2023. Melbourne jeweller Seb Brown designed their engagement rings, which Mia brought to France when she visited Harper.
When it came time to get married, the pair opted for a small ceremony at the Melbourne Registry, before heading to Bar Carnation with friends. They later celebrated with 100 guests at Old Palm Liquor, with Mia’s grandparents making the trip from Avignon.
Wedding Planning
Though the couple admit wedding planning was initially “overwhelming at every stage”, finding their outfits came naturally. Harper fell in love with the first dress she tried on, by local designer Kalaurie, while Mia had a custom suit made by Melbourne tailor Emily Nolan.
The team at Old Palm Liquor were amazing and kept them on track, but decision fatigue hit them hard. They were very lucky to have friends as vendors – Aaron Lee, their longtime university friend, was their DJ, and Mia’s family friend Paul Hyland from Glasshaus was their florist.

When they walked into the florist a week out from the event to work out the arrangements, bouquets and Mia’s boutonniere, Paul immediately put together the bouquet Harper had been imagining in her head but couldn’t articulate.
The Big Day
The actual event was at Old Palm Liquor on Lygon Street in Brunswick, with about 100 guests. It was slightly overwhelming walking in and having everyone’s eyes immediately on them – they felt a bit like animals in a zoo. But as soon as they saw their friends from uni who had known them as friends and now were seeing them getting married, they all started crying.
After greeting everybody, they had their version of a ceremony. They exchanged vows with each other in front of everyone.
Then they sat down for dinner and speeches. They had speeches from friends, Iris and Anya. Then came dessert, before the dance floor opened.
Aaron Lee, their friend from uni, was their DJ. He managed to transition from their first dance song, ‘Into My Arms’ by Nick Cave, into ‘Beauty and a Beat’ by Justin Bieber seamlessly.

Harper says that the best part of their day was exchanging vows. All of it was incredible, she says. Everything went perfectly and it was somehow even better than they had imagined.
As for their wedding dress and suit, Harper’s was designed by Kalaurie, while Mia’s was made by Emily Nolan.
One of Harper’s non-negotiables was to seal each invitation to the wedding with a wax seal. They had a little assembly line set up – Mia wrote everyone’s name on the envelopes in her very neat handwriting while Harper did the seal.
After a long night of dancing, they walked home, shoes off. It’s a moment they will always treasure, and one that they wish they could relive.
